The Elves
By Luci M
The elves, they sit in their hollow hills, laughing at man's whims and wills.
They walk our world, though we don't see; they touch our lives invisibly.
A gust of wind, a haunting song, that voice that's in your dreams life-long,
a sound in the night you know can't be, the cat's eyes staring back at me.
If you have seen or heard these things, then you have touched the elves.
They move through our world in the corner of your eye
like something you want, but you don't know why.
They are our unknown dreams, and our heart-felt cry
and we've been drawn to them from the dawn of time.
They are the deepest hurt and perfect desire.
It is hard to find words for the feelings they inspire.
If you have ever known or felt these things, then you have touched the elves.
The lords and ladies are unearthly and like nothing we've ever known;
they don't fit inside our boxes, they don't let themselves be owned.
The fey are wild and wonderful, yet horrible and untamed.
Once the fey have touched you, you will never be the same.
It gives me chills up my back now to write these words
yet I know somehow I must make them heard – for I have touched the elves.
